As is reported in the newspaper that Kate Anderson became an accidental car thief when she went to pick up her daughter's car near an Ohio University building last week. Anderson spotted(发现) the gray Toyota Camry and used her daughter's key to unlock the car, start the engine, and drove home.
When Charlie Vansant left class a short time later, he only found an empty parking spot. He first thought the car had been taken away by the police, but when the police couldn't find a record

of it, they thought it had been stolen.
The morning after Anderson took the car, her daughter discovered the Camry in the driveway wasn't hers. Anderson said she was able to find Vansant's name on some papers in the car and look up his phone number on the website.
When her daughter found Vansant's phone number, Anderson told him that the car was in her driveway. “It sounded really fishy (可疑的) at first, like maybe she wanted to hold the car for money or something else.” Vansant said.
He finally went to the house with a police officer, where he saw his car. According to a police report, the case was closed “because of mistaken car identity”. Anderson wasn't charged. Vansant seemed to blame the car company more than the “thief”. “Her key fit not only my lock, but my ignition(打火开关) as well---so high-five for Toyota, I guess,” he said. Toyota spokesman Bill Kwong said key technology wasn't as sophisticated(复杂) as two decades ago, and there were so many ways to cut a key, making it possible for such a mix-up to happen. He said the company now had a microchip equipped(嵌入) in the keys for 90 percent of its cars that allows them to start only with the correct key. 56. What Vansant said in paragraph 4 indicates __________.
A. he was so glad to know where his car was B. he would thank her for her kindness
C. he felt uneasy because he thought he would be forced to pay for the car D. he felt nervous because he thought he was taken in 57. What’s the best title for the passage?

D. How to protect your car?
58. The underlined word mix-up in paragraph 7 means _______. A. chance B.situation C.confusion D.accident 59. We can learn from the text that_________.
A. Kate Anderson was charged with theft
B. Toyota has taken measures to solve the key problems C. Vansant had thought his car was stolen. D. the police will go on looking into the case

John H. Johnson was born in a black family in Arkansas City in 1918. His father died in an accident when John was six. He was reaching the high school age, but his hometown offered no high school for blacks.
Luckily he had a strong-willed caring mother. John remembered that his mother told him many times, “Son,you can be anything you want really to be if you just believe.” She told him not to depend on others, including his mother. “You have to earn success,” she said. “All the people who work hard don’t succeed, but the only people who do succeed are those who work hard.” These words came from a woman with less than a third grade education. She also knew that believing and hard work don’t mean everything. So she worked hard as a cook for two years to save enough to take her son, who was then 15,to Chicago.
第 5页 共 11页
Chicago in 1933 was not the promised land that black southerners were looking for. John’s mother and stepfather could not find work. But here John could go to school, and here he learned the power of words — as an editor of the newspaper and yearbook at Du Sable High School. His wish was to publish a magazine for blacks.
While others discouraged (使气馁) him, John’s mother offered him more words to live by: “Nothing beats a failure but a try.” She also let him pawn(典当)her furniture to get the $500 he needed to start the Negro magazine.
It is natural that difficulties and failures followed John closely until he became very successful. He always keeps his mother’s words in mind: “Son, failure is not in your vocabulary!”
Now John H. Johnson is one of the 400 richest people in America — worth $150 million. 60. John’s father died in ________.
A. 1922 B. 1923 61. The story mainly tells us ________ . A. about the key to success for blacks
B. how John H. Johnson became successful C. about the importance of a good education
D. about the spiritual(精神的) support John’s mother gave him 62. John’s mother ________.
A. didn’t believe in or depend on others
B. thought one could be whatever one wanted to be C. believed one would succeed without working hard
D. thought no one could succeed without working hard

We always make ourselves believe that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, than another. Then we are frustrated (沮丧的)that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.
We always tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse(配偶) gets his or her act together, when we get a nice car, and are able to go on a nice vocation and when we retire. The truth is, there's no better time than right now. If not now, when? Our life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to ourselves and decide to be happy anyway.
One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred Souza. He said, “for a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin-----real life. But there was always some obstacle(障碍) in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”This perspective(视角) has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment that you have.
And remember that time waits for no one. So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school; until you get married, until you get divorced; until you have kids; until you retire; until you get a new car or home; until spring; until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy...
Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So, work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one's watching. 63. Which is the best title for the passage?
第 6页 共 11页
C. 1924 D. 1933
A. Life Will be Better
B. Don’t Wait
C. Happiness is A Journey
D. Be Brave to Face the Challenges in Our Life
. Why do we always make ourselves believe that life will be better after we get married, have
a baby, than another?
A. Because happy life is always in the future.
B. Because only if we get to a destination, we can lead a happy life. C. Because no one will be happy until he gets married.
D. Because we don’t realize treasuring every moment means happiness.
65. What does the writer want to tell us?
A. So said, so done, so do what you said. B. Will is power,so do what you want to do.
C. A thousand words will not leave so deep an impression as one deed, so do not talk, just do
it.
D. Time and tide waits for no man, so treasure every moment. 66. By reading Alfred Souza’s words, we know _______ .
A. the obstacles in life helped him to see what happiness is B. he had to face more obstacles than anyone else
C. he realized that there is no way to happiness
D. his life was always filled with too many obstacles for him to face
D
Anilmals are natural resources that people have wasted all through our history.
Animals have been killed for their fur and feathers, for food, for sport, and simply because they were in the way. Thousands of kinds of animals have disappeared from the earth forever. Hundreds more are on the danger list today. About 170 kinds in the United States alone are considered in danger.
Why should people care? Because we need animals. And because once they are gone, there will never be any more.
Animals are more than beautiful or interesting or a source of food. Every animal has its place in the balance of nature. Destroying one kind of animal can create many problems.
For example, when farmers killed large numbers of hawks(鹰), the farmers’stores of corn and grain were destroyed by rats and mice. Why? Because hawks eat rats and mice. With no hawks to keep down their numbers, the rats and mice multiplied(繁殖) quickly.
Luckily, some people are working to help save the animals. Some groups raise money to let people know about the problem. And they try to get the governments to pass laws protecting animals in danger.
Quite a few countries have passed laws. These laws forbid the killing of any animal or plant on the danger list. Slowly, the number of some animals in danger is growing. 67. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Save the Animals B. Useful Animals C. Laws for Animals D. Animals in Danger 68. Animals are important to us mainly because _________.
A. they give us a source of food
第 7页 共 11页
B. they are beautiful and lovely
C. they keep the balance of nature D. they give us a lot of pleasure
69. What has happened to the animals on the earth? A. Thousands of kinds of animals are gone forever.
B. A few kinds of animals have died out.
C. About 170 kinds of animals have disappeared forever. D. All kinds of animals are in danger. 70. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. People care much about animals because they need them. B. People must not kill any animal or plant.
C. Killing all rats and mice may cause some new problems.
D. Once a certain kind of animal is gone forever, there will never be any more.

The term “green computing” is one that is being used in many different markets and areas all over the world in today’s global technology. However, many computer users aren’t sure what it means. Many of today’s IT systems are beginning to rely on both people and hardware to help push their computer systems toward a more green computing system to help both the company and others. This is a hard balance to achieve, as it has to satisfy users. Many companies are learning the best ways that they call go greener when it comes to their computing and also help their business in the process.
