My Home City - Beijing!

Hi friends! My name is Xiaoming and I'm 10 years old. I live in Beijing, the capital city of China. Beijing is an amazing place with so many cool things to see and do. Let me tell you all about it!

First, Beijing has some awesome historical sites that are super old. The Forbidden City is this massive palace complex right in the heart of the city. It was home to 24 different emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties over almost 500 years! Can you imagine living in a place with 9,999 rooms? I get lost just trying to find the bathroom in my small apartment! The Forbidden City has beautiful traditional Chinese architecture with yellow glazed tile roofs, red walls, and elaborate carvings. My favorite part is the Imperial Garden with pools, bridges, and rockeries. I also love checking out the artifacts like ceramics, paintings, and calligraphy in the Palace Museum.

Near the Forbidden City is Tiananmen Square - the biggest public plaza in the world! It's so massive that over a million people can fit there. There are grand monuments, the National Museum, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong containing his preserved body. Every morning they raise the bright red Chinese flag in an impressive ceremony.

Not far away is the Temple of Heaven, a set of elegant religious buildings where emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties prayed for good harvests. The iconic round temple with its triple-eaved blue roof is beautiful. Every winter, locals go there to view the old trees frosted with snow and ice. It looks magical!

Another must-see is the Great Wall of China! This enormous stone wall stretches over 13,000 miles across mountains and deserts to protect ancient China from invaders. I've hiked along the rugged Badaling section near Beijing. Climbing up and down the steep steps gets me super tired, but the incredible views are worth it. The Great Wall is one of the most amazing constructions created by humans.

Speaking of amazing constructions, you have to check out the Olympic sites in Beijing! The iconic Bird's Nest stadium with its looping steel design hosted track and field events in 2008.

Beside it is the cube-shaped Water Cube aquatics center covered in inlaid bubbles that glow with colorful lights at night. My dream is to compete in the Olympics there someday!

If you love animals, go see the giant pandas at the Beijing Zoo! These adorable black and white bears eat bamboo all day and play on the climbing structures and slides. The zoo also has elephants, tigers, gorillas, and my favorite - the beastly Chinese dragon lizards that look like little dinosaurs.

For a panoramic view over the whole city, take the subway to Jingshan Park right behind the Forbidden City. There's a huge artificial hill in the middle made from dirt excavated when they dug the moats and canals around the palace. Climbing to the top gives you a bird's eye view of Beijing's skyline with all its high-rises and ancient monuments.

No visit to Beijing is complete without experiencing its amazing food! My favorite is jiaozi - scrumptious dumplings stuffed with pork and veggies that you dip in vinegar and soy sauce. I can easily eat a few dozen in one sitting. Peking duck is another classic Beijing dish with crispy roasted skin that's out of this world. And you have to try zhajiangmian, thick chewy noodles smothered in a rich sauce with shredded pork and veggies.

For snacking, try tanghulu - candied haws on a skewer. These little red berries get dipped in liquid sugar that hardens into a candy shell. They're both sweet and tart at the same time! Grab a bag of suanmeitangsuan candies too - these woven sugar strands with dried plums and hawthorns are addictively chewy and fruity.

Each year, Beijing celebrates Chinese New Year with incredible festivities! Streets are decked out in red lanterns and dancers perform the iconic lion and dragon dances while cymbals and drums pound. My grandparents always give me huahong pao or \"good luck money\" in red envelopes. At midnight, we set off strings of firecrackers for good luck. It gets so loud that the neighborhood sounds like a war zone! I love all the excitement and celebration.

My City Beijing - The Best Place to Visit!

Hi there! My name is Xinxin and I'm 10 years old. I was born in Beijing, the capital city of China. It's a really cool place with lots of fun things to see and do. Let me tell you about some of the best spots in my hometown! The Forbidden City

This is probably the most famous attraction in Beijing. It's a huge palace complex right in the middle of the city. Can you believe that for over 500 years, it was the home of Chinese emperors? No ordinary people were allowed in, that's why it's called the \"Forbidden City\"!

It has nearly 1000 buildings with yellow glazed tile roofs and red walls. My favourite part is the massive open square at the entrance called the Outer Court. I love running around its huge grounds and exploring all the different halls and gardens inside. The Forbidden City is like a magical place from an ancient fairy tale!

The Great Wall

Have you heard of the Great Wall of China? It's one of the true wonders of the world! Parts of this gigantic wall loop all the way around Beijing. My family took me to hike along the Badaling section last year. Let me tell you, climbing up that

endless stone staircase was no joke! But the views from the top were just breathtaking.

The Great Wall winds over steep mountains as far as the eye can see, looking just like a mighty dragon from the legends. It's amazing that this incredible fortification was built entirely by hand over 2000 years ago to protect ancient China. No visit to Beijing is complete without witnessing the grandeur of the Great Wall!

The Summer Palace

Close to the city center is the gorgeous Summer Palace, a huge park and lakeside retreat used by emperors to escape the summer heat. My class went on a field trip there and it was my best day ever!

We took a dragon boat across the immense Kunming Lake and disembarked at the marble boat made entirely of carved stone. Can you imagine how much work that must have been? We wandered through the Long Corridor, a never-ending covered walkway with 8,000 paintings decorating the ceiling and walls. My favourite stop was the Seventeen Arch Bridge, a unique marble bridge with 17 fancy arched spaces you can walk under.

The Summer Palace gardens are so peaceful and pretty, with willow trees swaying in the breeze. It was the perfect place for bike riding and kite flying with my friends. What an amazing royal playground this palace must have been! The Temple of Heaven

Another iconic Beijing landmark is the Temple of Heaven, a grand religious complex used by emperors to worship and pray for good harvests. Its most famous building is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, with three circular layers of intricate blue-tiled roofs.

My mom says the architecture here is stunning and has important symbolic meaning representing the unity of heaven, earth and humanity. What I enjoyed most was the park

surroundings, especially the echo wall whispering gallery and the trail encircling the Celestial Heights altar. It's such a serene and tranquil place for walking or just relaxing on the grass. Delicious Beijing Food

Finally, let me tell you about my favourite part of Beijing - the food! We have the most scrumptious dishes and snacks here. You have to try the classic Beijing duck, where the chef carves

thin slices of crispy roasted duck skin to dip in sweet plum sauce. Just writing about it makes my mouth water!

For breakfast, I love chewy sesame flatbreads filled with all sorts of yummy veggies and spiced meat. And don't even get me started on the tanghulu candied fruit skewers from street vendors - those colourful globes of crunchy, sticky hawthorn are out of this world!

No matter if it's savory noodles, dumplings, or sweet sesame seed cakes and candies, you'll never go hungry in Beijing. Just be sure to come with an empty stomach because you're going to want to taste it all!

There's still so much more I could share about my incredible hometown - the lively markets, scenic parks, bustling nightlife and more. Beijing is the Capital of China! It's a Big City with Lots to See!

Hi friends! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I live in Beijing, the capital city of China. Beijing is a really big and important city with over 21 million people living here! It has been the capital for a long, long time - over 800 years!

Beijing has so many fun places to visit. I want to tell you about some of the most famous Tourist Attractions in my city. I hope you can come to Beijing one day and see them for yourself! The Forbidden City

This is probably the most well-known sight in Beijing. The Forbidden City was the palace where the emperors of China lived a long time ago. It's called the \"Forbidden City\" because for a long time, regular people weren't allowed to go inside. Only the emperor, his family, and servants could enter!

The Forbidden City is absolutely huge - it has 9,999 rooms! Can you imagine having a house that big? There are beautiful gardens, temples, throne rooms, and even a private zoo area where the emperor could go see exotic animals.

My favorite part is the intricate decorations everywhere - There are carvings of dragons and phoenixes, painted ceilings, sparkly gold decorations, and more. The architecture of the

buildings is stunning. When I go there, I feel like I've traveled back in time!

The Great Wall of China

You've probably heard of the Great Wall before - it's one of the most famous structures in the world! Parts of the Great Wall are actually located right near Beijing. On a clear day, you can even see it from the city!

The Great Wall is an enormous series of stone walls and fortresses that were built a really, really long time ago to help protect ancient China from invaders. It stretches an incredible 13,000 miles across Northern China! That's so long that if you walked the entire length, it would take you over a year to finish. Climbing on the Great Wall is tons of fun but quite tiring since it's steep with lots of steps. My legs always feel like jelly afterwards! The views from the top are spectacular though. You can see the Wall snaking across the mountains into the distance. Parts of the Great Wall near Beijing are packed with tourists. But if you go farther out, you can find calmer, less crowded sections that give you a sense of how it may have felt for the guards keeping watch centuries ago. The Summer Palace

This palace was built as a sort of vacation home and gardens for the emperors and their families to escape the heat of summer in Beijing. It's located next to a huge beautiful lake called Kunming Lake.

My favorite part of the Summer Palace is the Long Corridor, which is exactly what it sounds like - an incredibly long, covered walking path right along the lake shore. The corridor is almost 3/4 of a mile long! The whole length has beautiful decorative paintings on the beams and columns.

I also love the Marble Boat at the Summer Palace. It's a giant carved marble \"boat\" that sits permanently on the edge of the lake. The emperors would have banquets and operas performed on this boat, floating on the water. How cool is that?

The Summer Palace gardens are full of amazing temples, bridges, pagodas, and walking trails. It's a wonderful place to spend a day exploring. The Temple of Heaven

This was a sacred temple complex built for the emperors to make special annual prayers and sacrifices asking for good harvests and blessings from the heavens. No ordinary people were allowed inside back then!

The most famous part is the huge round Temple of Heaven building itself. It has three circular levels of intricately carved stone and beautiful blue tiles on the roof. The infinite circular patterns and designs are meant to represent the heavens. Surrounding the temple are parks with soaring pagodas, imperial gardens, and a echo wall that carries sounds for miles. My dad thinks it's hilarious to make faces and funny noises against the echo wall!

I love watching the groups of older people who meet every morning to practice tai chi, dance, sing opera, or play games like chess and hackey sack in the parks here. The atmosphere is so lively and full of energy. The Food!

Okay, okay, I know the food isn't technically a \"sight\" but trust me - eating in Beijing is an amazing cultural experience! Beijing is famous for its delicious cuisine. Some of my favorite foods are:

Peking duck - This is roasted crispy duck that you wrap up in a little pancake with sauce and veggies. It's the most famous Beijing dish!

Jiaozi - These are dumplings boiled or fried into little pouches stuffed with pork, beef, or vegetables. Yum!

Zhajiangmian - This is a sauce with salty fermented soybean paste mixed with handmade noodles. Sounds weird but it's sooooo tasty.

There are countless little street food stands and hole-in-the-wall restaurants where you can try amazing

authentic Beijing specialties. Eating from the food stalls is one of my favorite parts of a trip to the city!

My Favorite Places to Visit in Beijing

The Forbidden City

One of the most famous tourist spots in Beijing is the Forbidden City. It's this huge palace complex right in the center of the city. A really really long time ago, it's where the emperors of China lived with their families and workers. Can you imagine having a house that big? There are 9,999 rooms inside! My favorite part is walking through the different hallways and courtyards. The architecture is just stunning with all the red walls, yellow glazed roof tiles, and intricate decorations. It makes me feel like I've traveled back in time to the imperial era. You've gotta check out the Imperial Garden too – the landscaping is gorgeous.

The Great Wall

Another one of my favorite Beijing spots is the Summer Palace. It's this gigantic park and palace area right next to a beautiful kunming lake. The gardens are just unbelievable – there are flowering trees, rock gardens, pavilions, and the most amazing colorful temples. One part I love is the Long Corridor, which is a covered walkway that goes on for almost a kilometer! The corridors have paintings on the ceiling and it's fun to walk through and examine all the images. My friends and I also like renting a boat to paddle around Kunming Lake. From the water, you get a different perspective of the gardens and temples surrounding the lakeshore. It's such a peaceful escape from the busyness of Beijing.

Wangfujing Snack Street

Let's take a break from all the historical sites to talk about food! Wangfujing Snack Street is an outdoor pedestrian mall jam-packed with food stalls and restaurants. This is where you can find some classic Beijing street foods like jianbing (a type of crepe), tanghulu (candied fruit on a skewer), and aiwowo (sticky

rice balls). My absolute favorite is the jianbing – it's like a crepe wrapped around an omelet with crispy wontons, cilantro, and a savory sauce drizzled on top. So delicious! You've also got to try the scorpions, seahorses, and other crazy crispy fried snacks if you dare! Even if you don't want to eat them, it's cool just to see the unique vendors selling these exotic treats. The snack street is always crowded and full of energy – expect lots of enticing smells, bright lights, and vendors shouting to get your attention. Nanluoguxiang Hutong

For a more historic look at local Beijing life, I recommend exploring one of the city's hutong neighborhoods. A hutong is a traditional courtyard residence with alleys weaving between them. One of the best preserved hutong areas is Nanluoguxiang. As you wander the narrow stone pathways, you'll see rows of charming courtyard homes with pretty wooden doors and potted plants outside. Mixed among the residences are tiny shops, tea houses, boutiques and restaurants tucked away. It's such a quirky area with plenty of hidden gems to discover. You could easily spend a full day just exploring the winding alleys and stopping for snacks or souvenirs.

Those are some of my top picks for things to see and do in Beijing! We have world-famous historical sites like the Forbidden

City and Great Wall. But we also have serene parks, lively street food markets, and quaint old neighborhoods that give you a taste of traditional culture. My Favorite Places in Beijing

It's really old too - it has been around for over 3,000 years. A lot of tourists come to Beijing to see all the amazing sights. Today I want to tell you about some of my favorite places in Beijing that you should definitely visit if you come here!

The Forbidden City

This is probably the most famous attraction in Beijing. The Forbidden City used to be the palace for emperors and their families and servants wayyyy back in history. It's called the \"Forbidden\" City because regular people weren't allowed to go

inside for a very long time. Only the emperor, his family, and the people who worked there could enter.

The Forbidden City is massively huge - it has 9,999 rooms! Can you imagine having a house with almost 10,000 rooms? I would get lost every day trying to find the kitchen or bathroom. My favorite part is the massive rectangular courtyard right when you enter. It's so big that my school could fit inside with plenty of room to spare! The architecture is also spectacular, with traditional Chinese sloping roofs and bright red and yellow colors everywhere.

When you go, be sure to check out the Imperial Garden towards the back. It's a beautiful park area where the emperors and their families could relax and enjoy nature. There are ancient trees, pretty pavilions, and even a hill you can climb up. Just be ready for lots and lots of walking
