摘要：A locking fuel cap has a handgripping shell that is selectively connected to athreaded closure through a lock mechanism and a torque limiting mechanism. The torquelimiting mechanism is operable to limit torque in the closing direction. The lockmechanism has a key actuated latch member which is engageable with a drive finger toalign the drive finger with cooperating drive surfaces on the torque limiting mechanismwhen the fuel cap is unlocked. The latch mechanism maintains the drive finger alignedwhen the key is operated to the lock position until the fuel cap is installed. The latchmechanism is released by the drive finger engaging the drive surface during suchinstallation so that the drive finger can return to the unaligned position if removal of thefuel cap is attempted while the lock mechanism is in the locked position.
